One of my bucketlist: La Union

La Union is one of my bucket list destinations for many reasons. I first became interested in it when I noticed many of my friends on Facebook and Instagram sharing their trips there. Their stories and posts made it clear that they truly enjoyed the experience—so much so that many of them keep returning. Their photos of sandy beaches, night life, and relaxed vibes really caught my eye especially the night life because as you all know, I am a party girl, I really love to party and they said that partying to La union is different from partying in the city.

I am curious about what’s in their, I asked a friend who always visits La Union, his name is biboy by the way and he is from pampanga, “What’s so special about it? Why do you always go there?” He explained that whenever he feels overwhelmed or stressed, La Union becomes his escape. In La Union, he can forget about his daily responsibilities back in Pampanga and just be in the moment. The combination of the ocean’s calming presence, the friendly local community, and the laid-back atmosphere offers him a much-needed break from everyday pressures.

Hearing his perspective made me realize that La Union isn’t just a fun destination—it’s a place where you can truly recharge. The idea of leaving behind stress and immersing yourself in a place that feels both adventurous and peaceful is incredibly appealing. That’s why I’ve added La Union to my bucket list; it promises not only a chance to explore new surroundings but also an opportunity to reconnect with myself and enjoy life a little more.

So, I began planning, even though I wasn’t sure when I would be able to go or when I could afford it. I started by researching transportation options, looking at bus and car travel routes, and checking out the best ways to get there. Next, I explored different accommodation options—from cozy hostels to affordable hotels—and read reviews to find the most comfortable and budget-friendly places to stay.

I also made a list of activities I could experience once I arrived, like partying, beach hopping, and trying local food. I carefully estimated how much money I would need for transportation, accommodation , food, and activities . Even though I didn’t have a set date or budget yet, every detail I discovered brought me closer to making this trip a reality. The process of planning not only excited me but also strengthened my desire to visit La Union someday.

So, I want to share to all of you what I have researched so you don’t have to go to different website to research.

How to get there:

From Metro Manila:

Cubao Bus Terminal: 

Bus companies like Partas and Genesis Bus operate routes from Cubao directly to La Union. Buses typically head to San Fernando, La Union, which is a common entry point.

Pasay or Sampaloc Terminals:

Other terminals in Metro Manila also offer trips to La Union. Look for buses marked for San Fernando or San Juan, La Union.

Travel Time and Cost:

The journey usually takes around 4 to 6 hours, depending on traffic and the specific route, and fares are generally affordable. 

Bus might charge around PHP600 to PHP800 per person for a one-way trip to San Fernando, La Union and if you are a student bring your ID to have a discount.

Private Car:

If you have access to a car or prefer a more flexible schedule, you can drive via the North Luzon Expressway (NLEX) and then take the MacArthur Highway north towards La Union. 

This route offers scenic views along the way.

Rideshare services or carpooling options are also available if you’re looking for a more budget-friendly alternative.

Local Transportation in La Union:

Once you arrive, you can use local transportation like tricycles and jeepneys to get around. Many accommodations also offer shuttle services to popular spots.

These options make it easier to plan your trip, knowing exactly where to go for transportation without having to search multiple websites.

Where to stay:

Chill’n Hotel

Chill’n is your typical budget resort. The room we were assigned was neat, spacious and air-conditioned. It has a tiled floor and is equipped with only the basic facilities such as wooden furnishings (a side table and a desk), a clean toilet and bath, and a flat screen TV. That’s about it. If you’re in La Union for a staycation and expecting top-notch amenities, this isn’t the place for you. but if you’re here to explore the outdoors and only need an affordable place to stay, this could be a good choice.

Planet G Hotel:

Planet G Hotel in San Juan, La Union, is a stylish and modern boutique hotel. It offers comfortable and well-designed rooms, including premium suites with balconies and penthouse suites with Jacuzzis and kitchenettes.

Best time to visit:

This is generally the best time to visit La Union. The weather is sunny and dry, making it perfect for beach activities, sightseeing, and, most notably, surfing. The cool breezes during these months also make the heat more bearable, so you can enjoy outdoor activities without feeling overwhelmed.

Surfing Conditions:

For surfing enthusiasts, the best waves typically occur from October to March. During this period, consistent swells create ideal conditions for both beginners and experienced surfers. Many surf competitions and events are also held during these months.

Rainy Season (May to October):

While La Union experiences more rain during these months, it doesn’t necessarily mean you should avoid a visit. The rainy season can be a quieter time to explore the area, with lush landscapes and fewer tourists. However, be prepared for occasional downpours and the possibility of rougher sea conditions.

Local Events:

Keep an eye out for local festivals and surf competitions, which usually take place during the dry season. These events offer a glimpse into the vibrant local culture and add an extra layer of excitement to your trip.

Traveling Is A Form Of Healing

Have you ever realized that life is full of stress and responsibilities that you simply cannot avoid? From the moment you wake up to the time you go to bed, your mind is occupied with thoughts of survival, planning, and managing everything that needs to be done. Whether it’s studying, work, finances, family, or personal goals. The constant pressure to meet expectations and stay productive can feel overwhelming, leading to mental and emotional exhaustion.  

For me, one of the best ways to escape this cycle and regain a sense of balance is through travel—even if only for a short time. Stepping away from my usual surroundings allows me to disconnect from daily stress, clear my mind, and find peace. It doesn’t have to be a long trip or an expensive getaway; sometimes, simply changing my environment is enough to help me reset.  

There was a time when I felt so stressed and depressed that I reached a point where I didn’t know what to do. I just wanted to disappear, even if only for a little while. I remember feeling lost in my own mind, unable to escape the constant worries that filled my head. The weight of everything became so heavy that even simple tasks felt exhausting. All I wanted was to sleep all day, hoping that rest would lighten the burden. But deep down, I knew sleep alone wouldn’t help; no amount of sleep could clear the overwhelming thoughts.

Then one day, while scrolling through my phone on TikTok, I saw a video about a woman's journey traveling alone. At first, I was just watching casually, but her story made me want to see more. She explained how she had felt lost, overwhelmed, and stuck in a routine that no longer brought her happiness. Instead of letting those feelings take over, she decided to pack her bags and take a solo trip.

As I watched, I could see the joy and freedom in her eyes as she explored new places, met new people, and embraced the unknown. She shared that traveling alone wasn’t just about visiting new spots—it was about finding herself, finding peace, and learning to enjoy her own company.

That video stuck with me. I kept replaying it, wondering what it would be like to do the same. Could I really leave everything behind, even if only for a short time? The idea was both exciting and scary, but deep down, I knew it was exactly what I needed. So, I traveled alone—not very far, since I’m still a student and don’t have a lot of money to go abroad.

For those few days, I stopped thinking about deadlines and responsibilities. I allowed myself to slow down, enjoy the little moments, and truly be present. I met locals who shared their stories, reminding me that life isn’t just about work and stress—it’s also about experiences, connections, and the simple beauty that surrounds us.

That trip changed the way I see travel. It isn’t just about making memories or visiting new places—it’s about healing. It’s about stepping away when life feels too heavy and giving yourself the space to breathe, reflect, and reset.

In the end, I realized that traveling is a way to heal and rediscover myself. It gives me the chance to breathe, reflect, and see life from a new perspective. Whether I’m walking along a quiet beach, exploring a new city, or sitting in a café watching life go by, travel reminds me to slow down and be present.

More than anything, traveling has taught me that life is bigger than my current struggles. It shows me that beyond my daily responsibilities, there is a world full of beauty, adventure, and opportunities to grow. That’s why, for me, travel isn’t a luxury—it’s a necessity. It’s the reset button I press when life becomes overwhelming, helping me return with fresh energy and a clearer mind.

Experiencing the cold weather in Tagaytay

 We decided to take a trip to Tagaytay because it was really hot in Taguig, and we needed a break from the heat. We were looking for a place to relax and enjoy some cold weather, and Tagaytay was the perfect choice. It’s our favorite spot for us since it’s only a couple of hours away from Taguig, making it an easy and quick getaway. Tagaytay has always been our go-to place for unwinding, because it's a great place to relax and enjoy nature. Whether you're a foodie, adventure seeker, or someone just looking to unwind, Tagaytay has something for everyone. In this blog, I'll take you through my travel experience and share some of the must-visit spots in this charming city.

The Scenic Views and the Famous Taal Volcano

One of the first things that always captivates us about Tagaytay is the stunning view of Taal Volcano. It’s one of the most iconic sights in the area, and there’s something so calming about watching the volcano surrounded by the peaceful waters of Taal Lake. We made sure to visit Hiraya Starbucks to sip cup of coffee while looking at the Taal Volcano.

Relaxing Nature and Parks

Aside from the food and scenic views, Tagaytay is also known for its parks and gardens that allow visitors to unwind and connect with nature. We visited a few parks, including the Sky Ranch, Picnic Groove, People’s Park, where we enjoyed walking around and taking in the surroundings. For those who enjoy more nature-centered activities, there are peaceful gardens and areas for a quiet picnic or a gentle stroll. It’s the perfect place to simply breathe in the fresh air and enjoy the cold atmosphere.

Delicious Food and Local Delicacies

If you're a foodie like me, Tagaytay has so many food spots to try! It’s a haven for fresh, local produce and delicious meals, with the  old climate perfect for indulging in hot dishes. We made sure to stop by one of our favorite spots for bulalo, a delicious Filipino beef shank soup that’s perfect for the chilly weather. Bulalo is the first thing that comes to our mind whenever we are going to Tagaytay. You’ll find plenty of restaurants and cafes offering stunning views of the lake, making the experience even more special. Tagaytay also offers a variety of local delicacies such as buko pie, our favorite shop is Rowena’s Buko Pie, you should buy their buko pie it’s the best among the other buko pie.

If you haven’t visited Tagaytay yet, I highly recommend you add it to your travel list. The cold weather, beautiful landscapes, and delicious food make it an unforgettable destination that will leave you feeling refreshed and recharged.
